Andrea Francolini

Photographer Andrea “Drew of Sydney” Francolini is a very well known sailing photographer due to his unique approach in taking pictures of boats. He always comes up with something new and his style certainly stands out.

Now based in Sydney, Australia, Andrea was born in Milan Italy, in the early 70’s and was educated in the USA and Switzerland.

His freelance career has seen him working on every continent around the world, aided by his fluent English, French and Italian.

Starting his career in the graphic design industry in Milan, Andrea picked up a camera 25 years ago and has specialized in yachting photography. His images are regularly published across Europe and in North America and in recent decades heavily in the South Pacific. He has covered many important sailing races world wide with over 200 magazine cover shots to his name. Said this his personal passion for photography has seen him win many awards overseas. Andrea has always been attracted to portraits but after shooting boats for so many years he found it hard to break the mould. ‘You don’t tell a boat what to do so when someone used to ask me what I wanted them to do I was clueless’. This has changed over the years even though he still waits for that moment where the subject puts his guard down and Andrea can capture the ‘real’ persona.
Andrea has also started photo tours. Pakistan being the main destination due to his extensive travels in the country on a yearly basis since 2008. These photo tours are for small groups up to 6 people. ‘I wish to keep the groups small so it is more intimate, we get to know each other and I can give more’. His mail goal are for people to come home having experienced something different and with better pictures to show friends. Regardless of what camera is used. iphone or high end digital cameras there are ways to get better pictures.
Private tours are also available. For other destinations please feel free to contact him directly.
He is also the founder of My First School Pakistan, an Australian charity which improves schooling conditions in northern Pakistan.
